Steve Patterson is one of Chicago's foremost communication strategists, bringing two decades of experience in investigative journalism and political and crisis communications counsel to the firm.
After working as a top political reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, where his stories triggered new laws and federal investigations, Steve most recently served as Communications Director for Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.
In that position, he helped develop policy and strategic messaging, crafting media strategies for issues that gained national attention, including stopping foreclosure evictions and suing Craigslist. He also oversaw international coverage at Burr Oak Cemetery’s crime scene, among other crisis incidents. Steve also developed projects with 60 Minutes, Time, CNN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, ABC News, MSNBC, the Discovery Channel and Newsweek.
Patterson began his career at the Chicago Tribune, then worked for nearly a decade as an investigative reporter for the Gary Post-Tribune, where his work led to elections being overturned and new voting laws, earning him recognition as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Indiana Politics.
A Michigan native, Steve is a graduate of Ball State University and a member of the Native American Journalists Association.
