| Vice President |
Angela Benander brings nearly a decade of high-level communications and public policy experience to Res Publica Group. As press secretary for U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and a member of his Senate Leadership staff, Angela gained considerable experience with message-based communication, media strategy, rapid response, and outreach. Angela served as the Senator’s primary media contact on a wide range of issues including federal transportation projects, modernization at O’Hare International Airport, health care and education initiatives, and fighting cuts to Illinois military bases. Before becoming press secretary, Angela served as a legislative aide to Sen. Durbin, handling a significant domestic policy portfolio that included education, health care and housing. She worked with state and local government as well as grassroots organizations to coordinate Durbin’s policy initiatives with the needs of Illinois communities. Prior to joining Res Publica Group, Angela was communications director for U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan. She served as the Senator’s official spokeswoman and in the key period leading up to her 2006 re-election. Angela devised message and strategy to communicate the Senator’s accomplishments, including her historic agreement with the government of Ontario to cut Canadian trash shipments to Michigan after years of stalemate on the issue. Angela is a graduate of Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where she majored in political science and was a member of the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Service. She lives in Chicago.
