Lauren joined Res Publica as an intern in August 2008 after serving as a data collector for the University of Illinois Social Work department’s federally funded study of racial disparities in mental health centers. Previously, Lauren served as Event Chairperson of the American Cancer Society’s First Annual Youth Relay for Life of Springfield and its Jackson County Relay for Life. After heading up these two major fundraising events, she decided to direct her recruiting and energizing abilities toward legislative endeavors. After first participating in the 2008 Model Illinois Government Simulation, in order to acquire a better understanding of the legislative process, Lauren joined the Naperville Township Democratic Organization where she was quickly appointed Naperville 005 Precinct Captain, a position that officially begins in September of 2008. She also began volunteering with the campaign of 2008 State Representative candidate Diane McGuire in August of 2008. Lauren is a graduate of Southern Illinois University- Carbondale with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in women’s studies.
